Our Story
James and Maria Alexander took a very unlikely route to South Carolina. From the Lonestar State and the Gem State respectively. With Texas famous for beef and Idaho famous for potatoes, these two were bound to hook up.
James has fond memories of family reunions in Texas. Each Father’s Day, his uncles put their hearts and souls into cooking, smoking briskets into the wee hours of the morning.
Longing for the smoked meat barbecue from back home, James and Maria purchased a trailer mounted smoker and began the drive to create the perfect smoked brisket. After overwhelming demands for their cooking poured in from friends and family, they explored commercial properties to showcase their cooking to a broader audience. In May 2016 they purchased Ferse's in downtown Orangeburg, and Palmetto Star BBQ was born. The money was going out faster than it was coming in and they were forced to close the business. They have now scaled it back down and are once again cooking for friends and family.
They are now ready to offer their smoked meat as catering for special events.
